Uniforms

Uniforms are V-neck white tops and white pants.

Tops:

  • White Belt to 2nd Kup Red Belt: White V-neck
  • Red Belt: Red V-neck, optional
  • Black Belt up to 9-DAN: Black V-neck
  • 3-DAN to 6-DAN: Black V-neck with two parallel black stripes on each side, from collar to wrist
  • 7-DAN and higher: With three parallel black stripes on each side, from collar to end shoulder

Pants:

  • White Belt to 2-DAN: White pants
  • 3-DAN to 6-DAN: White pants with two parallel black stripes on each side, from waist line to ankle
  • 7-DAN and higher: With three parallel black stripes on each side, from waist line to knee

Belt Ranking System

Belt Ranking System – There are 5 belt colors and 10 levels from 10th (beginner) to Embroidered Belt (highest color rank):

  • White Belt = 10th (beginner); Yellow = 8D; Green = 6D; Blue = 4D; Red = 2D
  • White with 1 Yellow stripe = 9R; Yellow with 1 Green stripe = 7R; Green with 1 Blue stripe = 5R; Blue with 1 Red stripe = 3R; Red with 1 Black stripe = 1R
  • White with 2 Yellow stripes = 9D, Yellow with 2 Green stripes = 7D; Green with 2 stripes = 5D; Blue with 2 Red stripes = 3D; Red with 2 Black stripes = 1D
  • White with 3 Yellow stripes = 8R; Yellow with 3 Green stripes = 6R; Green with 3 Blue stripes = 4R; Blue with 3 Red stripes = 2R; Red with 3 Black stripes = Embroidered Belt
  • Black Belt: 1-Dan to 9-Dan. Each Dan is represented by a Gold stripe.

Than Phong Logo & Patch

All uniforms must have a patch with a WTF logo (Figure 1) on the left of the chest and a patch with a Than-Phong International Martial Arts logo (Figure 2) on the right chest. On the back is another Than-Phong Patch (Figure 3 will be phased out and replaced by Figure 4). ONLY the Director of a school and the old timer Than Phong Masters wear the original Than Phong Martial Arts Academy patch (Figure 5) on the left in place of WTF patch.

  • The Circle represents the Universe. There are opposite but complimentary matters that exist in every aspect of the universe and the human life, such as day and night, hot and cold, rain and sunshine, strong and weak, male and female, etc.
  • The Right Fist represents the Taekwondo style. It also represents power and justice.
  • The Wings are a part of the logo of the South Viet Nam Air Force where Than-Phong was founded.
  • The color White is a symbol of purity. The disciples of Than-Phong Taekwondo live their life with purity physically, mentally, in words and in action.
  • The color Yellow represents the skin of the Vietnamese people.
  • The color Red represents Yang which symbolizes heat, strength, success, and day.
  • The color Blue represents Yin which symbolizes ocean, cold, hope, and night.
